I'm fascinated by the unseen, for instance I love heading up to the top floor of the building that I work in (it has this dingy old apartment that has been abandoned for years) so I can see out across the city. What I particularly love is seeing all the tops of the other buildings - when big buildings are designed they're designed (aesthetically at least) from the ground up, ie they are intended to be viewed from the ground.
Looking at them from above provides such a different perspective - all the "ugly" stuff gets shoved on the roof like air vents, generators, etc, etc.
I also have an unhealthy obsession for alleyways, they provide so much insight into the "real" city. So many times I am completely amazed by the polished, clean facade of a building in the city (particularly the shops) that have the most filthy, trash-laden alleyways and "back areas" I've ever seen. It's like the shops have put on this false mask to disguise the decay behind.
I'm sure that this fascination says more about me than I can think of right now... but I'll let you figure it out.
